ACTIM
The ACTIM brand name was introduced for the FA Premier League, Scottish Premier League, Football League (3 divisions) and Scottish Football league in season 2004-05 although, the data records go back much further than this. However, there are differences in the levels of data available for each of these leagues.

There are two main products under the ACTIM banner:

1)ACTIM Stats - generic name for all static data, data captured live during matches and enhanced data captured from video after the match.

2)ACTIM index - a specific player performance index for the Football League Championship

ACTIM stats operates via a specially designed data capture system. One half of the system is a PFA ex professional player who attends the game and commentates over a voice link during the game and at the other end of the voice link is a data operator entering the information into a real time database. Detailed and aggregated information is then provided from this database to customers. Data is captured on the following actions: Throw Ins, Fouls, Free Kicks, Red & Yellow Cards, Offsides, Shots, Missed Shots, Dead Balls, Corners, Goals, Saves, Assists, Crosses, Substitutions, Handballs, Penalties and percentage possession. Within each of these topics further factors are added such as who the action is taken by, when it is taken, what the outcome is etc.

In addition to the live data being captured, ACTIM also covers more "static" data such as fixtures and player/club information. In addition to the live data there is enhanced data provided via a post match analysis of tackles and passes along with their appropriate outcomes

  • ACTIM stats using the more static data is available for all leagues.
  • ACTIM stats using live data is available for FA Premier League, Scottish Premier League and Football League (all divisions)
  • ACTIM stats using the enhanced post match data is available for FA Premier League and Football League Championship.

ACTIM index
This has been developed in conjunction with Salford University to determine the main actions taken in games that contribute to judging the performance of a player. The index was introduced for the beginning of the 2004-05 season and applies to the Football League Championship only.

The final index is actually based on 4 separate sub indices. Unlike other player indexes ACTIM index has been based on analysing 5 years of detailed match statistics. Some other player indexes have worked on the basis of one person deciding which actions they believe contribute to a player's performance. ACTIM index is based on analysing all those actions which have actually contributed to an outcome, using sophisticated mathematical modelling techniques. As more information is added to the database the index is reviewed and amended to suit a greater mass of data.
