Content “rights” within the UK professional football leagues are a complicated topic. This brief description is intended as a guideline to point prospective interested parties in the right direction and cannot be considered an exhaustive guide to what is available.
“Rights” relate to content in all its forms as generated by clubs playing within the tournaments of the leagues. Rights are protected by a variety of internationally recognised laws and because of the legal complexity will not be dealt with on this page. Clubs maintain their own business brands and provide their own commercial solutions. If you wish an association with any specific club in any of the 4 leagues please contact the specific club commercial dept. Links to the club sites can be found via the leagues websites.

Audio Visual Broadcasting
All enquiries relating to audio visual broadcasting in the domestic and international markets will be directed to the required league (unless the enquiry is club specific). All of the leagues market their audio visual rights on behalf of their member clubs in cycles relating to a set number of years – typically 3 year cycles. Rights covered are: live matches audio, live matches audio visual, goal clips, match archives and then cross-related to the various forms of distribution technology: television or radio or internet or mobile. The final element is related to geographical territory. The process for acquiring rights is via tender and the first stage is to register interest in the tender process so that the appropriate documentation can be provided. Sponsorship
Contact clubs or leagues depending on which sponsorship is required. Please note all use of clubs/ league brand marks can only be with the permission of the club and or league depending on the brand mark required.
Commercial Products
All proposals including the rights required for the business proposal should be directed to the club (club specific proposal) or the league if it relates to all clubs within the league.
Use of fixtures
All of the leagues fixture lists are marketed by Football DataCo on behalf of the leagues and clubs, follow link to Licensing > fixtures
Use of Data
The official match data of the leagues is branded ACTIMstats and can be obtained via a series of sales agents – these can be found on DataCo / Partner companies and wholesalers
Related Information
There are two specific related organisations that can be contacted for certain forms of content use – Football League Interactive (FLi) and Football DataCo Ltd (FDC). In the case of FLi a number of clubs have come together to provide a combined website proposition. FLi has negotiated a series of rights deals with its member clubs that can provide an extremely cost effective way of reaching large numbers of committed football fans.
